Background:
Printer Felix Harlan of Harlan & Weaver traced Bourgeois's hands to create this composition. A photograph was taken of the process. Bourgeois later used this photograph to create a 2008 photogravure, also titled "Hands," seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.

The source drawing for this composition was done on the verso of the 2002 impression seen below in Related Works in the Catalogue.
