Background:
Printer Felix Harlan of Harlan & Weaver traced Bourgeois's hands to create this composition. A photograph was taken of the process. Bourgeois later used this photograph to create a 2008 photogravure, also titled "Hands," seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.

The source drawing for this composition was done on the verso of the 2002 impression seen below in Related Works in the Catalogue.

Drypoint, with pencil, orange pencil, and red and black ink additions
Inscription:
"apply to peace corps volunteer." lower middle to lower right margin, red colored pencil, artist's hand.
State Changes and Additions:
Changes from state I, in drypoint: left hand's second finger and nail, and third finger; right hand's fifth finger and second finger's nail; all reconfigured.
