- Edition Information:
- There are additional impressions of the compositions Bourgeois incorporated in "Eternity." She utilized the digital printing process to work with this imagery in varying sizes and formats for multiple projects in 2009 and 2010. These projects include the series "Do Not Abandon Me" and the illustrated book "To Whom It May Concern," seen below in Related Works in the Catalogue, as well as unique fabric prints, which are referenced for each of the individual components that comprise this fabric collage.
- Background:
- In 2009, Bourgeois began drawing male and female forms in profile with crayon, colored pencil, gouache, and watercolor on paper. The fabric printing workshop Dyenamix digitally printed these drawings onto fabric. Bourgeois worked with these images in unique prints, as well as in two collaborative projects completed in 2010: the series “Do Not Abandon Me,” with British artist Tracey Emin, and the illustrated book "To Whom It May Concern," with author Gary Indiana.
This fabric collage is one of eight unique fabric clock works Bourgeois made, all in 2009, which incorporate various compositions printed on fabric. The other seven are included in Related Works in the Catalogue below. According to the Louise Bourgeois Studio, "Self Portrait," 2009 is the first such work Bourgeois made (see the third work in Related Works in the Catalogue below). - Curatorial Remarks:
- Each of the 14 components of the collage, which are printed on individual fabric sheets, are sewn onto the overall fabric sheet. The outline of the clock and the clock's hands are composed with brown thread stitched into the overall sheet. The numbers around the clock and the center point of the clock are stitched in red thread.
- Description:
